Henrico approves razing Pouncey Tract Park softball field for 12-court championship pickleball complex

The Henrico County School Board unanimously approved a $4.4 million contract with Rainbow Construction Corporation for the construction of an illuminated 12-court pickleball complex at Pouncey Tract Park in August 2023.

The complex will be constructed after the current sports field, an adult softball field, is destroyed. Site work is expected to be completed in June 2024.

One step forward: New sidewalks and walkway repairs could be headed to Scott’s Addition

Richmond’s Scott’s Addition neighborhood is one step closer to becoming easier for pedestrians to walk through — but it may still be a while.

In July 2023, Richmond City Council voted unanimously to move forward a resolution that could pave the way for new sidewalks and walkway repairs in the increasingly developing area. But only if the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board gives the project the go-ahead.

8News skydives with U.S. Army Golden Knights in Hanover County

One of only three Department of Defense–sanctioned aerial demonstration teams, the United States Army Parachute Team — better known by its nickname, the Golden Knights — is a demonstration and competition team made up of around 95 U.S. Army men and women, and on Thursday morning, I got to skydive with them.

One of the parachute units, the tandem team, is known for taking celebrities, elected officials and high-profile VIPs on jumps. Today, one of those VIPs happened to include me, 8News Digital Content Producer, Kassidy Hammond.

Richmond’s Main Street Station featured on U.S. Postal Service stamp as ‘architectural gem’

One of the most iconic pieces of Richmond architecture and one of the City’s most widely recognizable landmarks, Main Street Station, has been chosen to be featured on 2023 U.S. Postal Service stamps.

Located in the heart of downtown Richmond, Main Street Station was completed in 1901 and underwent a $95 million renovation decades later. The improvement project was completed by 2018 and included the addition of the Shed, a 100,000-square-foot glass-enclosed event space that transformed the station.
